THINK HEAD

To begin, having a plan is crucial. You must think through your every move as well as your next move. One must look beyond the usual and anticipate what is to come. Hence, one must develop a strategy that is backed by research. It is also important to test the waters before you jump in. “You must be prepared to change your plan of action as and when required. While in chess, your actions are partly driven by opponent; in business, your strategy must take in account the action of your competition as well as your business partner. Hence no plan should be set in stone” says Venkat.

Many organizations get into the rule of a top-down system. In such a system, employees are not appreciated for their individual talent and their intricate understanding of their own function. Seeking their opinion can help develop a broader perspective and as a result, a more pragmatic and wholesome strategy. “If a problem crops up at the ground level, only the person in-charge at that level will be aware of the specifics and he/she would be the best person to take action. Employees must be given the freedom to use their abilities and voice their concerns, says Pullela.
